When people talk about responsible building and management, statements often remain abstract. At WALD.WEIT, many decisions are reflected in very concrete terms.
For its energy supply, the hotel relies on a combination of geothermal energy and a wood chip plant. Whilst geothermal energy is used for heating and passive cooling, the wood chip plant complements the energy concept effectively.
Photovoltaic systems also contribute to energy generation. The roofs feature extensive and intensive greening, which helps to regulate water and create habitats.
Outside the building, too, the surrounding environment has been carefully considered. Natural stone cladding provides nesting and shelter opportunities for native wildlife. A service water pond, retention roofs and rainwater infiltration basins help to absorb rainwater in a controlled manner and relieve the burden on the public sewerage network.
There are also numerous charging points for electric vehicles available for guests. The offering is complemented by e-bikes and e-mountain bikes, which can be used directly at the hotel.
This connection to the region is also evident in the culinary offering. At the WALD.FEIN restaurant, the focus is on seasonal produce and collaboration with regional partners. The cuisine draws on what the region has to offer – without any unnecessary detours.
 
When design is more than just aesthetics 
Anyone entering WALD.WEIT quickly realises that the forest does not end at the hotel door. The architecture draws on the shapes, colours and materials of the surrounding area. Wood plays a central role in this. The slatted structures in the public areas are reminiscent of tree trunks and the lines of the woodland. Light and shadow transform the spaces throughout the day, much like they do outside amongst the trees.
The rooms also follow this concept. Natural materials, warm colour tones and large windows create a connection to the landscape. The view outside remains an integral part of the guest’s stay. It is not a matter of staging nature. Rather, the design has evolved from the location itself and continues to reflect it to this day.
 
18 hectares of woodland right on the doorstep 
Perhaps the most visible expression of this connection lies right in front of the hotel. The WALD.WEIT is surrounded by around 18 hectares of its own woodland. Hiking trails, walking paths and mountain bike routes run directly through the surrounding area. The well-known Rheinsteig trail is in the immediate vicinity.
The forest is far more than just a beautiful view. It shapes the atmosphere around the hotel, provides places of retreat and makes many activities possible in the first place. When you step outside in the morning, you are already right in the heart of nature.

Many guests travel by train via Wiesbaden or Eltville and cover only the final few kilometres by taxi or shuttle. Numerous walking trails start right at the hotel. The Rheinsteig, walks through the Hahnwald or tours through the vineyards can be enjoyed without having to travel any further.
